Positive Affirmations

Positive affirmations are mantras that we repeat to ourselves. Athletes use these before big events. They say things like “I am strong,” “I can do this”, and “My team is with me.” Most of us can think of something we use that falls into this category. “I got this.” “I am beautiful.” “I know what I am doing.”

Despite the prevalence of this type of self talk we rarely explicitly teach our children to use it. It has the power to change our performance, lift our mood, and double our self-esteem. Working to explicitly build positive affirmations into our daily routines has the potential to decrease mental health struggles in children and families.  For more ideas about positive affirmations, check out this site.
